The Dòchas Education Trust
Our hearts have been drawn to the people of the Nsanje District of Southern Malawi.
It lies far from the seat of Government in Lilongwe in the most southerly part of the country on the border with Mozambique and in the confluence of the Zambezi and Shire rivers. Whilst it is a fertile region it is also prone to a cycle of drought and flooding.Covering a large area, its widely scattered community mainly survives through subsistence farming. Droughts and floods can by turn give poor harvests and there is a lack of safe, clean drinking water and adequate sanitation.

In organisational terms Dochas is a Christian, international, education, training and development organisation.
Our vision is to work towards advancement and transformation through education and training. We have an holistic approach which means helping people with all their needs; physical, spiritual, emotional, mental and social. We desire to learn from others and share anything we have. Dochas also seeks to partner and network with other like minded organisations.
We are currently working in the Nsanje District of Southern Malawi through three main projects:
An in-service programme for teachers lasting 5-6 years during which time we hope to see 200 teachers raise their qualifications from certificate to diploma and possibly to degree level.
A Community Education Project with a focus on public health, the Rights of the Child as set out by the UN and child development. Training in literacy and English language classes will also be delivered along with the setting up of small easily managed aid and development projects.
Bible Education - Bible Schools will be held in Nsanje twice yearly to deliver a systematic programme to women and church leaders who would otherwise not be able to access Bible or theological training. We also hope to establish monthly fellowship groups so will be running training programmes to enable local leaders to facilitate them. A children's ministry will also be an integral part of this.
